SPOTTER

The voice of the Suite: it calls flags, cars alongside, pits, weather and damage.

What it is for

SPOTTER talks to you while you drive, so your eyes stay on the track. It warns about flags, nearby cars, fuel, pits, weather and damage. You can choose the voice, how much it talks and write your own phrases.

How to open it

  1. In the Suite menu, PIT group, click SPOTTER and then OPEN.
  2. The first time it asks how to start: Ready to race, Customize or Advanced.
  3. Change level lets you choose again.

The screen

  • Live: what it is saying now and the latest calls.
  • Voice and sound: the voice, the microphone and the Audio output.
  • How much you want to hear: silence, urgent only, normal or everything.
  • Speed and Volume.
  • MUTE: silences the voice at once. Click again to turn it back on.
  • MY PHRASES: your own calls.
  • The status at the top: iRacing connected or waiting for iRacing.

Call groups

Flags, Radar, Pit wall, Coach, Weather, Damage and Settings. Each call can be turned on and off, and the advanced view shows the rest.

On each call

  • Test: you hear it.
  • Source: built-in, recorded, from file or beeps.
  • Record with your microphone or use a .wav file.
  • Go back to the built-in voice.

Common tasks

Starting quickly

  1. Choose Ready to race.
  2. Open iRacing. Once it shows iRacing connected, it will talk on track.

Making it talk less

  1. In How much you want to hear, choose urgent only.

Hearing the voice on another output

  1. Open Voice and sound.
  2. Choose your Audio output.

Recording a call in your voice

  1. Find the call.
  2. Click Record, speak and finish.
  3. Click Test.

Creating your own phrase

  1. Open MY PHRASES.
  2. Write the phrase. Data goes in braces; for example, "{combustible} litres left". The Variables list shows the names.
  3. In the when field, choose always or a condition, such as less than.
  4. Click Test and then add it.

Common problems

  • It does not talk: check it is not muted and that iRacing shows as connected. Check the Audio output.
  • "Windows voice missing": install that voice in the Windows speech settings.
  • "Format not supported": only .wav is accepted.
  • "Recording failed": no microphone found.
  • It is slow to talk: check the voice latency and wait for audio preparation to finish.
  • The phrase gives an error: the value in braces does not exist or a brace is not closed. Check Variables.
