DIRECTOR

Direct your race broadcast: drivers connect their camera and you decide who to show.

What it is for

DIRECTOR is a panel for broadcasting an iRacing race. Drivers connect their camera from the Suite and you see faces, standings and suggestions of who to show. The output goes to OBS.

You need iRacing on the broadcasting PC, the Suite open and OBS to stream.

How to open it

  1. In the Suite menu, PIT group, click DIRECTOR and then OPEN.
  2. Choose: I'm a driver, to go on air, or Create room, to broadcast a race.

If you are a driver

  1. Open iRacing and join the session. Your name and number are read automatically.
  2. Click I'm a driver.
  3. Check your face in Your camera and leave Camera and Microphone on.
  4. Type the six-letter Code you were given and click Connect.
  5. Look at the sign: YOU ARE ON AIR means you are being seen. CONNECTED · NO VIDEO YET means not yet.
  6. Cut stops the stream whenever you want. To change camera or mic, cut first.

If you broadcast: the room

A room is a race, with a code for the drivers.

  1. Click Create room.
  2. Put the name in Race.
  3. Choose the Duration, with eight hours as the ceiling.
  4. Choose the data cap: 10 GB for a short race, 30 GB is normal, 60 GB for endurance.
  5. Check the Organiser key.
  6. Tick the option to stream your own camera if you are racing too.
  7. Click Create and share the code on Discord.

When the data cap or the closing time is reached, the cameras close by themselves. During the race you have drivers inside, live cameras, data used, time to closing, + 1 HOUR and CLOSE ROOM.

The director panel

  • On air: the camera of the car the simulator is showing.
  • The race: the standings by class. Each row says whether the driver has a camera: no, LIVE or NO SIGNAL. Click a row to cut to that car.
  • What to show: ranked suggestions. CERTAIN comes from the simulator; LIKELY comes from real data with a threshold.
  • At the bottom: engine, simulator, video, cars, classes, cameras and race data. The data figure turns amber and then red near the cap.
  • AUTOMATIC and MANUAL: who cuts. In automatic, clicking a row holds it for a few seconds.
  • Leader, Battle, Your car and General: quick shots. With a car number and GO you jump to that one.
  • Why it cuts here explains the last cut.

Going live

  1. In OBS, copy the OBS OUTPUT link with COPY.
  2. In OBS, add a 1920×1080 browser source with that link.
  3. Leave off "Shutdown source when not visible" and "Refresh browser when scene becomes active". Otherwise the video cuts when you change scene.
  4. Notices gives you the race notices line and OBS templates gives you the screen designs.

Common problems

  • "I need iRacing open": your name and number come from there.
  • "The code is six letters" or the code does not exist: ask for the code again.
  • Another program is using your camera: close it and try again.
  • No camera permission: grant it when asked.
  • NO SIGNAL on a row: that driver has not reported for a while.
  • "The data cap has been reached": the room no longer lets anyone back in. Create another with more data.
  • The simulator did not change camera: the cut is undone and it tells you. Check iRacing is open as a spectator.

  • Complete Standings + map + your camera. The "broadcast" style, the busiest of the three.
  • Broadcast No camera of your own: big standings, map and flags. For broadcasting other people's race (Role 3).
  • Minimalist Just the map and your camera. Nothing covers the game — the lightest overlay in the study.
  • Relative Who's ahead and behind you, instead of the overall standings. For those living their own battle.
  • Duel The house 1-vs-1 comparator. For races with a clear rival to chase.
  • Engineer Pedals and fuel. To show how you drive, not just where you are.
  • Weather & Strategy Weather, fuel and delta. For long races where strategy matters.
  • Maximum Standings, map, relative, delta and flags — the study's "maximalist" style: everything at once.
  • Race Pace Lap history and delta. For qualifying sessions or time attack.
  • Or build your own, piece by piece
  • Camera and caption only The bare minimum: your race with the camera following the action by itself and the driver's name on screen.
  • + Standings Adds the live position table, always visible in a corner.
  • + Relative Adds who's ahead and behind you — the reference drivers use most on track.
  • + Map Adds the track layout with every car live — widely used in broadcasts.
  • + Flags Adds the flag alert when it changes (yellow, red, chequered...).
  • Add each source in OBS as a "Browser" source, 1920×1080. Leave "Shutdown source when not visible" and "Refresh browser when scene becomes active" unticked — if they stay ticked, the picture cuts out when you switch scenes.
