COACH

It compares your lap with a reference and tells you what to do in the next corner.

What it is for

COACH compares your lap with a reference driver's, in CSV, and tells you corner by corner when and how hard to brake, before you get there. No reference lap, no advice: it does not guess.

How to open and place it

  1. In the Suite menu, DDU group, click COACH. On the left you see DISPLAY and on the right its menu.
  2. Click START. STOP removes it.
  3. AUTOMATIC: it starts with the simulator and stops when you close it.
  4. The dropdown chooses which screen it appears on. VR tells you which window to capture in virtual reality. STREAMING copies the link to add it to OBS as a browser source. MANUAL opens this manual on the web.
  5. Drag it to move it and stretch its corner to resize it.
  6. To drive without a click touching it, the Ctrl+Alt+L shortcut locks and releases the overlays.

The card and its controls

  • − and +: how much of the lap the trace shows.
  • ♪: turns sound on and off at once.
  • ☰: opens the menu. Right click works too.
  • 🔒: drive mode, clicks pass through the window.
  • ▲ and ▼: open the upper and lower screens.
  • ◀ ⟲ ▶: move the CSV five metres, in case it is offset.

The menu

  • COACH: what is shown, the reference offset and the sound.
  • Screens: open, split and fill the outer screens, up to eight cells.
  • Overlays: take tools out into their own window.
  • CSV: the reference lap and the recorder.
  • Appearance: window, background, text, size and refresh rate.
  • Help: version and links.

The sound

It starts off and only warns of the coming braking point. BEEPS: four low hits before the braking point. VOICE: three, two, one, brake. You choose mode, volume and whether the warning comes earlier or later. It stays silent in the pits.

Common tasks

Getting started

  1. In the CSV tab, load a lap. The Suite includes samples.
  2. Go on track and follow the card.

Recording your own reference

  1. In CSV, use the recorder while you drive.
  2. Use it as a reference afterwards.

Common problems

  • No advice: the reference lap is missing.
  • No sound: turn it on with ♪ and touch something in the window.
  • The reference is offset: correct it with ◀ and ▶.
  • It stutters: lower the refresh rate in Appearance.
  • The window does not respond: it is in drive mode. Press Ctrl+Alt+L.

  • YOUR LAYOUT
  • WHAT YOU SEE
  • CSV ROW The orange row: what the CSV driver was doing at this very point of the track and what they are about to do in the next seconds. It is the heart of COACH. Turned off, the card shrinks and you only see your own telemetry.
  • BRAKING ALERT The NEXT CORNER screen: which corner of the lap it is, braking effort, gear, turn direction and how many metres away it is. Colour shows the effort: blue lift · green brush · yellow medium · orange hard · red full.
  • METRES TO BRAKING The big counter of metres left to the next braking point, painted in the colour of its effort. Turn it off if you prefer to rely on the LEDs and the sound only.
  • DELTA BAR The bottom row with who is ahead and behind you and by how much. It does not affect driving: removing it makes the card shorter.
  • WHEEL Both wheels: yours and the CSV's. Turning it off removes both.
  • SPEED Both speed readouts: yours and the reference driver's at this point.
  • GEAR Both gears: the one you are in and the one they used here. If they differ, there is your homework.
  • PEDALS Clutch, brake and throttle bars — yours and the CSV's, stacked.
  • SIDE SCREENS
  • TYRE LEDS The side lights with each tyre's temperature: blue cold, green in the window, red overheated.
  • WHEN RESIZING
  • HOUSE RATIO
  • FREE HOUSE RATIO: the device keeps its proportion, like a real DDU — drag the corner and it grows or shrinks whole. FREE: width and height separately, to make it chunkier or slimmer.
  • OFF-TRACK LIGHT Three red flashes around the whole frame when you go off track. Meant to be caught from the corner of your eye, nothing to read.
  • NEXT CORNER (GEAR AND TURN) In the header: which gear the next corner takes and a rally arrow with its direction.
  • TRACK POINT The lap percentage you are at right now. Useful to check the CSV lines up with the real track.
  • CSV OFFSET ON SCREEN How many metres you have shifted the reference with the offset buttons. At zero it looks off; as soon as you move it, it lights up gold.
  • COACH ROW The CORNER JUDGE screen: exiting each corner it tells you whether you braked earlier or later than them, pressed more or less, and how much time you gained or lost in that corner.
